As the scandal surrounding Congressman Anthony Weiner intensified this past week, Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, quietly took their New York co-op apartment off the exclusive Forest Hills Gardens real estate market. The couple had listed the Queens apartment with Madeleine Realty for $449,000. The listing went on the market on May 21 and was removed on May 31.
Democratic Representative Anthony Weiner has held the position as New York's 9th District Congressman since 1999 when he replaced Charles Schumer who was elected to the Senate. Weiner married Abedin, an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in the summer of 2010. Weiner's apartment on the tree-lined street in Forest Hills Garden area of New York seems a million miles away from the hubbub surrounding Weiner and his online activity.
The 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath cooperative has 850 square feet of living space. The apartment building was built in 1939 and features hardwood floors and crown molding. The kitchen has been updated with stainless steel appliances and new cabinetry.
Described as a "charming and elegant" apartment, the property has a private tree-lined yard and laundry on site.
