More Than You Ever Wanted to Know about Radon Gas!
The EPA, US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that about 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the U.S. are radon-related. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. Radon is an odorless, tasteless and invisible gas produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water. Radon is a form of ionizing radiation and a proven carcinogen. Lung cancer is the only known effect on human health from exposure to radon in air. Thus far, there is no evidence that children are at greater risk of lung cancer than are adults.
The DHS (CA Dept of Health and Human Services Agency) defines Radon as a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas produced by the decay of trace amounts of uranium occurring naturally in soils. The EPA recommends that all homes be tested for Radon. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer (PDF) , following smoking. US EPA estimates (PDF) that nationally 21,000 lung cancer deaths are caused by radon each year.
It's never too late to reduce your risk of lung cancer. Don't wait to test and fix a radon problem. If you are a smoker, stop smoking. Consider quitting. Until you can quit, smoke outside and provide your family with a smoke-free home. (www.epa.gov/smokefree).

As a listing Agent, we typically order a NHD report as in most states it is required by law. Of course this report is given to both the homeowner and the perspective buyer through their agents. I did not realize the very serious and harmful effects it may have on human life. This article is not promoting any one NHD company as all of them disclose the levels.
