Would You Camp Out in a Line for 22 Days to Buy a 55" TV?

2 women in Beaumont, CA are camping out at a Best Buy electronic store to get a 55" TV for $199.00.  They use the facilities across the street at the Mobile Gas Station and take turns sleeping. Of course they are the first but Best Buy officials say this is common and there will be more soon.

Best Buy is opening at 5:00 pm on Thanksgiving morning for shoppers to get doorbusters which include many electronic appliances at reduced prices.

Would you wait in line for days to get a TV?

*I remember driving to the mall in San Bernardino when they were selling beanie babies. My  5 year old daughter wanted a particular TY teddybear which was scarce and said she knew Santa would bring it. I waited in line from 3:00 am until they opened at 10:00 am but unfortunately they ran out before they got to me. I swore I would never do that again.

Kristin: And the public wonders why the welfare lines keep getting longer. The people who do camp out to buy an item at no further price reduction than normal most probably do not have jobs.

Kristin- I waited in the rain at midnight to see the Exorcist when I was in college and that's it.  I'm also wondering... were they retired or not working?  And who's cooking Thanksgiving Day dinner?

BTW- congratulations on your Millinaire Milestone.

Kristen,

No.  I would not camp out for 22 days to buy a TV.   However, for those that would do that.   It's okay.  It is obviously very important to them.

Uh, nooooo. But I did camp out overnight to see the Rose Parade in Pasadena. Definitely worth it! Congrats again on becoming a millionaire on AR!

OMG this is absolutely crazy stupid.  Think of how much money they could make if they actually went to work...way more than they would save by doing this. - Debbie

No, couldnt fathom doing that ! So where is the value  ? She is probably eating fast food and spending $$$ just to save the $$. Id rather pay full price and avoid the crowds.

Absolutely NOT Kristin. I don't want to wait AND I'm not going anywhere near ths stores for the sales. Too much chaos for me!

Hi Norm,

Not sure how anyone could spend 22 days outside for a TV unless they are not working or on vacation. Very puzzling.

Hi Kathy,

Perhaps a family member is cooking or they are going to be busy connecting their TV instead of cooking??

Hi Dinah,

Yes I think  you are right, as this is important to them and we must follow our dreams.

Hi Dinah & Kathy,

Thanks so much for the congrats and I am so happy I made it this far anyway.

Hi Kathleen,

I would camp out all night to see the Rose Parade and have always wanted to do it. I think that is different and it is certainly not for 22 days.

Hi W of WWT,

I agree, they could work hard and make money for 22 days instead of sitting out front of a store. Maybe they are financially independent as one of them had an iPad in one of the pictures. More power to them.

Hi Michele,

Eating fast food is expensive so she is probably not saving any $$ plus it is just a waste of time in my opinion. Pay the sale price as everything will be on sale and forget the doorbusters. Plus it is not safe for two women to be outside by themselves as something sketchy could happen.

Hi Donna,

We are going to the mall on Saturday morning after the Friday bunch has come and gone. I usually buy all my gifts at Macy's so they will have plenty.

Kristin, obviously these people don't have a job and maybe not much of a life neither.

Silvia,

I plan my day down to the minute and it would drive me crazy to sit for 22 days. Very sad Silvia, but I think you are right.

Never in a million years would I wait in line that long, however I did stand in line for three hours in the 80s for tickets to see "The Police."

Posted by Bette Gottwald, "Bet"on Central PA Real Estate! (UNITED REAL ESTATE | Central PA) over 3 years ago

Hi Bette,

I think if it is for something eminent like tickets or entrance in a few hours but not 22 days. I would not even stand all night except maybe for the Rose Bowl Parade like Kathleen Luiten . It is on my bucket list for things to do.

Congrats on the million point mark! Now my response to the question... no way!  I will not wait at a restuarant for more than 20-30 minutes!

That is so crazy. We'll be getting a new Target store here soon, the first on Maui, and you know they'll be camping out for a day or two just to say they were the first ones in the door. I don't get it.

And congrats on being a new millionaire!

Posted by Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089, Maui Real Estate sales and lifestyle info (Hawai'i Life Real Estate Brokers) over 3 years ago

I was just at Maui and loved it but didn't realize there was not a Target so that will be a big plus and yes people will probably be standing in line and I do not understand it either. Georgie, you are very close to that million point milestone too. Happy holidays.

Hi Kristin, That is incredible. I could not ever imagine myself doing that. My limit in any line is about 15 minutes. If longer than that, whatever it is and myself will not connect, LOL.

Hi William,

I am pretty impacient and try to stay on a schedule. I could not imagine and we have had bad weather; thunder storm and wind for days.

Here is a current picture at another Best Buy on Saturday night.

Hi Gary,

I totally agree as anything longer than 30 minutes, we go somewhere else. Just think of the time they could have been out working somewhere vs staying in line for days to save a little money.

God bless them for having that kind of patience. Personally, I don't have the time or desire to wait that long.  My pet peeve are long lines and price tags! ;)

Posted by Michael A. Caruso (Surterre Properties) about 3 years ago

Let me add...I have no patience for Rude & Drunk people while waiting in long lines!

Posted by Michael A. Caruso (Surterre Properties) about 3 years ago

Hi Michael A. Caruso

I have no patience for rude people, line jumpers and I could never wait in line for hours anymore. I did it once before Christmas when my 5 year old wanted a particular Beanie Baby and told me not to worry as Santa would bring it. I stood in line from 3am- 10am  in an unsafe neighborhood for 7 hours and missed it by 1 number. Never again.

Posted by Kristin Hamilton CA Realtor, (909) 557-6966- Specialize 55+ Communties Banning (Sun Lakes Realt) about 3 years ago

Kristin, that is a sad and unfortunate story. I can't imagine how frustrated you must have been. I still hope Santa found that Beanie Baby!

Posted by Michael A. Caruso (Surterre Properties) about 3 years ago

I'd wait 22 days if I can set it up on eBay and not have to lift a finger or expend any additional thought or effort.
