Will the Real Estate Agent Say Cheese

Will the Real Estate Agent Say Cheese

Will the Real Estate Agent Say Cheese

I saw this movie recently "Evan Almighty" and the real estate agent "Eve Adams" portrayed by Molly Shannon was hilarious. The family moves to the Suburbs and they arrive to find this huge home and the agent meets them at the door of their Hummer when they pull up. Of course she is trying to get a photo of her with the family and popping her head up through the 5 of them standing there. She says "Say Escrow" instead of the typical phrase "cheese". It was such a funny moment and she wanted a good advertising photo and I thought of course we do this too.

Then I saw a TV movie "Starting Over" and the new residents show up late at night to their new home and of course the key will not work and after a couple of minutes, he says "I better call the real estate agent to come over and get the door open for us". This is so true as clients always call if they have a problem. In true life, the agent would have pulled herself/himself together and driven over there to open the door. Do we answer our phone at night? Yes, most of us do and then try to solve the problem.

American Beauty Movie real estate agent is portrayed by Annette Bening. Though she has a neurotic family, she is selling real estate and dresses very professionally and seems to spend more time working than at home. This is also so true as we dedicate our lives to helping our clients but the movie was a little racy and hopefully most do not kiss in the Jack-N-Box drive-through line.

Then the movie "Neighbors" with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi where a weird couple move into a neighborhood and all kinds of bizarre things happen. Of course there is a swamp next door and there is quicksand here. I laughed and thought their real estate agent did not get a NHD report as they would have known not to move there.

To sum it up, real estate agents are not always portrayed as the professionals that we truly are or strive to be but at least they are in the movies and that is a big step.

Hi Kristin, great descriptions of agents in the movies.
Brings back memories of some good performances.

Kristin, there are many times when we do look for some token of appreciation but it should always be after we have done our job.  Good Luck with the contest and 'Say Escrow"

Hi Bob Crane

I love to see real estate agents in movies even if it is funny and unflattering.

Hi Ed Silva

I laughed so hard when I saw that clip on TV the other day and it gave me the idea for the entry. "Smile and say Escrow".

Annette Benning in American Beauty has to be my favorite of all of those.  Her mantra of "I will sell this house today" as she prepares that oh so 70's home for an open house is classic.

Kristin you missed my favorite, " The Decendents" with George Clooney. A large part of the movie was filmed on Kauai but my favorite part of the movie is when George Clooney and his movie daughter are driving in Honolulu. The daughter starts screaming "stop stop" Clooney stops and the daughter hysterical tells him to back up the car, she finally yells "stop" right in front of a "For Sale" sign along with the name rider on top of the taller post sign types. She points to the name rider which has a photo of the Realtor. "that's him, that's him" she cries out. That's the man who was having an affair with her mom. I had to bust out laughing as that reminded me of a local Realtor.

Hi Ginger Harper

The part of the real estate agent played by Molly Shannon is in the first 15-30 minutes. I didn't watch the entire movie as I had to run to show property but I am sure it was the best part.

Hi Chris Ann Cleland

She was so funny and frankly with a family like hers, no wonder she spent her time working long hours. I loved her role and she played it perfectly. Also reminds me of the real estate agent mother in 'Two and Half Men'. They both ran around in designer suits and did their job perfectly.

Hi Julie A. Black

I adore George Clooney but don't remember that movie. I will have to find it and watch it. There are sex idiots (male and female) in all fields and in the movies it is very funny! Thanks for the tip.

American Beauty was a favorite, I actually own it, and I don't buy movies.  I am due to watch it again soon!

Hi Sharon Tara

It is a funny movie with a quirky ending but I loved Annette Bening in it as she makes any role great and was a funny real estate agent.
