2015 ASICS 30th LA Marathon was Fun Even With Record Heat

The 2015 ASICS LA Marathon had record heat yesterday but 22,333 runners came in having fun regardless. They started at Dodger's Stadium in Los Angeles and finished at the Santa Monica shore. This is a newer route as the LA Marathon (when I used to run it) was pretty much a loop in LA.

They called this a 'run within a run' as the top USA runners were qualifying for the Boston Marathon and for the USATF Championship which had a monetary prize 1-15th place for males and females.

RESULTS:

Male Runners

1. Daniel Limo- Kenya

2. Lani Rutto- Kenya

3. Jared Ward- USA

*USA Male runners placed #3, and #6-10.

Female Runners

1. Olga Kimaiyo- Kenya

2. Natalya Puchkova- Russsia

3. Blake Russell- USA

*USA female runners placed #3, and #5-10.

Even with record breaking heat issues, the medical incidences were low. Stats on Injuries:

35- Transported to hospital due to heat issues. A 61 yr old male  had a heart attack but was revived and transported to a nearby hospital.

187- Treated during the run.

250- Had minor injuries.

Running is a great activity for physical and mental fitness. If you have never run a race, 5K- Marathon, you should try it but remember to start slow and build up. Watch the LA Marathon on TV and it will certainly get you mentally prepared to start running. Many running clubs out there, magazines and books to help you prepare.

CONGRATS to everyone who finished the race (5K, Wheelchair Division and Marathon) and to all the organizers and volunteers!

Kristin, I sure admire all the runners and all the hard work in training they did!  Hats off to LA for pulling off such a great event as it takes thousands upon thousands of hours of preparation to execute such a large event!

Hi Bruce Walter

It is one of the top 10 Marathon events in the world so that is a pretty good ranking. I am sure you are right that it takes thousands of hours preping for this event. Even with the high heat and added water stations and paramedics, they had very few injuries and most completed the run.

Kristin I loved this update, it is quite impressive that US runners placed at all in this event...part of the medical issues being minimized I attribute to the fact that they started earlier when it was cooler...Endre

Hi Endre Barath, Jr.

Yes the runners did well and nice that they are getting some money.  Typically only the first place male and female get $. I remember when I was running it, they got a Mercedes Benz and then it switched to Honda.

Kristin I used to provide security for the Boston MA a hundred years ago and John Hancock was the sponsor.....all the perk for us were finish line seats for friends entrance to the press room for me and every year a different windbreaker...used to watch the different cars that were given for year:))

Hi Endre Barath, Jr.

I bet in 2012 you were glad you didn't work there anymore?

Kristin  I was so sad because a few months before we were having dinner  with friend in the restaurant where one of the bombs went off on Boylston St. Ironically at both shootings Diane's Cousin and sons (all three Boston PD) were in the middle of it....so to answer the long answer is Yes I am glad I am not in that line of work...Endre
